Steve holds a B.A. from the University of California at San Diego. He also holds a M.B.A. and a J.D. from the University of San Diego. Steve was certified to practice law by the supreme court of California and the U.S. District Court. Steve first practiced law with an emphasis in real estate in San Diego. Subsequently, he served as general counsel for a large real estate development company and the managing partner of numerous commercial real estate projects in Southern California. From 1987 to 1998 Steve was a fifty percent partner in Triarc and Triarc Asset Management (TAM); a San Diego based commercial and residential development company. Triarc successfully developed retail, office, industrial, specialty car wash and residential properties despite the difficult real estate market conditions of the late eighties and early nineties in Southern California. TAM managed Triarc’s properties as well as a large number of 3rd party owned properties. In 1998 Steve formed The Focus Group specializing in the development of multi-tenant and single tenant retail properties. The Focus Group has successfully completed over 100 projects, totalling over several million square Feet throughout the United States. In 2009, Mr. Grady began acquiring, rehabilitating, and managing multifamily and other distressed opportunities. Since the Great Recession, Mr. Grady has continued to develop retail projects and has redeveloped over 5,000 multi tenant units.
Mark Goethals attended the Indiana University Kelly School of Business and graduated with majors in Finance and Economics in 1987. He joined Radnor Corporation, a Real Estate Investment Fund subsidiary of Sun Oil Co. (Sunoco) in 1988 as a financial analyst. He was directly involved in the acquisition, planning, development, and asset management of more than 40 regional sized commercial buildings, retail centers and residential development projects. In 1992, as Radnor took direct control of its portfolio, Mark obtained his contracting license and became the Project Manager and General Contractor charged with completing the development and divestment of two Land Planned Communities, three multifamily condominium projects, four single family developments as well as TIs for two midrise office buildings. In addition to completing the site development and vertical construction, Mark also oversaw the sales and operational teams. Radnor Corp was dissolved nationwide in late 1996. Between 1997 and 2006 Mark developed many in-fill urban land developments also building small tract single and multifamily projects.
Mark joined the Focus Group in 2007 as financial analyst and general contractor. He became a principal in 2011 with the acquisition of a large multi-state multifamily portfolio. He is currently a licensed General Contractor in both Florida and California.
David is a 25 year veteran in the commercial real estate industry with his primary background in the retail build to suit development segment. David started his career with CBRE specializing in retail tenant representation which then led to his tenure on the corporate retail side as a Director of Real Estate for Hollywood Video. Having spent the early part of his career on the brokerage and tenant side of the business, in 1998 David joined forces with Steve Grady to form The Focus Group specializing in build to suit development for national retailers. Over the past 19 years David has been directly responsible for overseeing more than 200 build to suit projects for national and region retailers all over the country including Starbucks, Walgreen’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Dollar General, Chipotle, Goodyear and AutoZone. David holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from the University of Arizona and is involved in multiple charitable organizations including the Surfrider Foundation and Boys Team Charity.
Steven has over 12 years Real Estate Development experience and obtained a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Davenport University, Michigan, with major in strategic management. He also holds a BSc ( Hons ) in Town Planning from University of Dundee, Scotland and RICS Diploma in Surveying from College of Estate Management, England. Before moving to the USA, Steven had a successful real estate development career with Gladedale Homes and Tilfen Land. Over a 10 year period he was directly involved in acquisition, planning and development of commercial, retail and residential projects worth in excess of $300 million, including Shoebury Garrison, Veridion Park and Thames Innovation Centre all based in Greater London and South East England. With The Focus Group Steven is responsible for bringing forward both tenant “build to suit” and multi-family development projects and over the past year has successfully completed several restaurants including Popeyes, Pieology, Blaze Pizza and Mad Greens. In his spare time, Steven enjoys playing golf and visiting family/friends in the UK.
Carrie received a BS in Interior Design at the International Academy of Design in 2005, after she first finished up her career as a collegiate and professional athlete, having played soccer for most of her life. Following graduation, Carrie was a designer for several new construction home builders. She also was the designer for a large natural and synthetic stone distributer. In 2008, Carrie moved into the construction financial and accounting world and worked for a large construction firm in Lakeland, Florida. Carrie joined The Focus Group in the fall of 2017 as our construction and accounting bookkeeper in our Florida division. She now is the director for our Florida construction operations.
Stephen earned his B.S. in Accountancy from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He has over 25 years experience in commercial and residential real estate development with an emphasis on pro forma financial analysis, project cost management and financial reporting. He has worked in various financial positions with both small local and large nationwide real estate development companies. He assumed the role of chief financial officer with the Focus Group in January of 2018.
Jessica started out as a Construction Disbursement Officer at Evans Title Company in 2009. She then furthered her career at T-Bird Restaurant Group as Accounts Payable and Receivable Processor in 2013. In 2016, Jessica joined The Focus Group attending to accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable. She has been certified in bookkeeping and accounting, among other areas. As a business major, she continues her education to further her expertise at The Focus Group.
Allen has served as Controller for national and international development firms, from start-ups to $500M plus companies. Allen has over 15 years of experience working in various business development, resource procurement and management roles within the real estate and biofuel development industries, while having direct responsibility for the financial reporting and operations. Allen strives to achieve business goals and improve operations. He has compiled audited financial statements for the Big-4 accounting firms.
Nancy obtained an associate degree in Science from Grossmont College. After graduation she worked at Jurgens Chiropractic and then grew her career toward marketing in the medical field. She has over 10 years administrative experience and is continually expanding her experience and expertise. In 2017 she joined The Focus Group in marketing, leasing and operations.
