Steve holds a B.A. from the University of California at San Diego. He also holds a M.B.A. and a J.D. from the University of San Diego. Steve was certified to practice law by the supreme court of California and the U.S. District Court. Steve first practiced law with an emphasis in real estate in San Diego. Subsequently, he served as general counsel for a large real estate development company and the managing partner of numerous commercial real estate projects in Southern California. From 1987 to 1998 Steve was a fifty percent partner in Triarc and Triarc Asset Management (TAM); a San Diego based commercial and residential development company. Triarc successfully developed retail, office, industrial, specialty car wash and residential properties despite the difficult real estate market conditions of the late eighties and early nineties in Southern California. TAM managed Triarc’s properties as well as a large number of 3rd party owned properties. In 1998 Steve formed The Focus Group specializing in the development of multi-tenant and single tenant retail properties. The Focus Group has successfully completed over 100 projects, totalling over several million square Feet throughout the United States. In 2009, Mr. Grady began acquiring, rehabilitating, and managing multifamily and other distressed opportunities. Since the Great Recession, Mr. Grady has continued to develop retail projects and has redeveloped over 5,000 multi tenant units.
Mark obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Indiana University Kelly School of Business with majors in Finance and Economics in 1987. Mark joined Radnor Corporation, a wholly owned real estate investment subsidiary of a major oil company in 1988. As an executive member of Equity/Joint Venture team in charge of analysis and due diligence, he was directly involved in the acquisition, planning, development and asset management of more than 40 regional sized commercial buildings, retail centers and residential development projects totaling more $260MM in development costs. In the early nineties, Mark obtained his contracting license and became “responsible managing employee” for Radnor West Corporation completing over 300 remaining units at four properties. Not only completing the Vertical and Site development work, but also hiring and managing the sales and operational teams. In 1997 Mark designed, entitled and developed 7 land, 3 multifamily and 2 single family projects. With the Focus Group Mark has underwritten, purchased and sold off real estate backed notes as well as retail and multifamily acquisition, construction and sales. Currently successfully working through more than 3,000 units of multifamily construction, repositioning and divestment.
Kathy obtained her B.A. in accounting from the University of Colorado. Following graduation, she was employed by the Denver office of the international accounting firm of Grant Thornton where her areas of expertise included real estate and banking. After leaving Grant Thornton, Kathy co-founded a CPA firm where she managed a client base of over 200 clients. In 1996, she relocated to San Diego and is currently employed by The Focus Group as the Chief Financial Officer.
David is a 25 year veteran in the commercial real estate industry with his primary background in the retail build to suit development segment. David started his career with CBRE specializing in retail tenant representation which then led to his tenure on the corporate retail side as a Director of Real Estate for Hollywood Video. Having spent the early part of his career on the brokerage and tenant side of the business, in 1998 David joined forces with Steve Grady to form The Focus Group specializing in build to suit development for national retailers. Over the past 19 years David has been directly responsible for overseeing more than 200 build to suit projects for national and region retailers all over the country including Starbucks, Walgreen’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Dollar General, Chipotle, Goodyear and AutoZone. David holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from the University of Arizona and is involved in multiple charitable organizations including the Surfrider Foundation and Boys Team Charity.
Steven has over 12 years Real Estate Development experience and obtained a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Davenport University, Michigan, with major in strategic management. He also holds a BSc ( Hons ) in Town Planning from University of Dundee, Scotland and RICS Diploma in Surveying from College of Estate Management, England. Before moving to the USA, Steven had a successful real estate development career with Gladedale Homes and Tilfen Land. Over a 10 year period he was directly involved in acquisition, planning and development of commercial, retail and residential projects worth in excess of $300 million, including Shoebury Garrison, Veridion Park and Thames Innovation Centre all based in Greater London and South East England. With The Focus Group Steven is responsible for bringing forward both tenant “build to suit” and multi-family development projects and over the past year has successfully completed several restaurants including Popeyes, Pieology, Blaze Pizza and Mad Greens. In his spare time, Steven enjoys playing golf and visiting family/friends in the UK.
Darin Remsing earned a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology with a Minor in Marketing at San Diego State University. Upon graduation, Darin became a top producer as a Regional Sales Executive at Callaway Golf Company for several years. After successfully investing in real estate, he discovered a passion for real estate and transitioned his career into the residential arena in 2001 and became the owner of his own Brokerage. His interest in Real Estate Development became a reality after he was introduced to Steve Grady. Darin joined The Focus Group to grow the single and multi-tenant build-to-suit retail portfolio. As Acquisition Manager, his main focus is to help franchisees and franchisors expand their business. Darin most enjoys cultivating relationships with brokers, tenant representatives and franchisees to generate successful ongoing projects.
Justin received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of California, Riverside School of Business. Following his graduation, he worked for 3 years as an analyst managing a portfolio of real estate investments for a wholly owned subsidiary of Chase bank. With The Focus Group Justin is involved in the acquisition, planning, development and asset management of The Focus Group’s portfolio. In addition, Justin serves as associate project manager for The Focus Group’s Multi-Family portfolio. In 2014 Justin passed Level I of the Chartered Financial Analyst program.
Jessica started out as a Construction Disbursement Officer at Evans Title Company in 2009. She then furthered her career at T-Bird Restaurant Group as Accounts Payable and Receivable Processor in 2013. In 2016, Jessica joined The Focus Group attending to accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable. She has been certified in bookkeeping and accounting, among other areas. As a business major, she continues her education to further her expertise at The Focus Group.
Lauren began her career as Project Manager for New Century Mortgage in 2005. She then joined the Real Estate and Development Company, GDM, LLC as Project Manager, where she was responsible for all tenant and vendor relations as well as building maintenance. With a background in Computer Networking, Lauren has experience facilitating daily administrative needs, as well as having extensive knowledge of commercial real estate. She is a certified Microsoft Systems Engineer and has also obtained her NNA Notary public certification. Lauren became a member of The Focus Group team in 2015.
